Thank you for the DD, ^FrockTarts, that's awesome! It freaks me out a bit to see so many messages waiting for me when I log in, though, hah!
Thank you also to all you who are checking it out and/or leaving comments. I thought I should probably elaborate a little bit on this piece to answer some questions that may pop up.
Size of the dish for reference is approximately 3"
Material used is glass ... just glass. The glass I used for the design has a high metal oxide content and the blues you see come from the silver oxide in the glass. The clear glass is lab grade borosilicate, which I get from Germany and the coloured glass is made in the US of A. I developed this technique over about 3 years and it is a kind of backwards process, not unlike the process that Chinese artisans use to paint the inside of snuff bottles, except it's done in reverse. Hard to explain, but easy to understand when you actually see it done. And yes, I've been getting very inspired by HR Giger's work for a long time and I also draw a lot of inspiration from popular culture. This piece has found a home with a collector in Canada
Thank you! Perseverance is the key to working with glass. The great thing about lampworking is that it's so accessible, torch, fuel and oxygen, glass, away you go
Jup I only have a shitty propane torch though, and it's impossible to do nicer stuff without extra oxygen : ( Might invest in a better torch some day when I have enough money. Is there one you recommend, by any chance?
