Ode to the Sun King by wickedglass Ode to the Sun King by wickedglass
Influenced by a few sources including, but not just limited to, the drawings of Haeckel and the opulent frivolity of rococo sensibilities. This sculpture reflects a kitsch aesthetic which is firmly rooted in the idea that "more is more". The work is a collaboration with my partner, while I specialize in forming glass in the flame, she is an expert caster and creator of "pate de verre". The large bell of the jellyfish is fumed in 24ct gold. This is one of a pair of works.

Wow. It's incredible! And it really does capture the rococo spirit, I think! You could have fooled me into thinking it antique except maybe for the very vibrant colors of the base, which remind me more of victoriana.

thank you very much, we had too much fun and kind of went a bit over the top on that one, truth be told, the making of it scared the living vapours out of me, it's over 80cms tall and a bit nerve-racking to hold in one hand while working on it with the other. I kept having a quote by Frank Wedekind in my head:"Kitsch is the contemporary form of the gothic, the rococo, the baroque." which kind of sums it up :D

This is so amazingly intricate I have no idea where you would even begin making something like this.
